Wolves of Smoke and Ink by Tigress

I was chatting with mulefoot over on FA one day and he spoke about how he was going to paint a coyote of ink and shadows. I absolutely loved the idea because it was one I'd had many times before myself and I am in love with the wispy, ethereal and powerful image of a wall of smoke or a haze of mist swirling and reaching, transforming into the powerful, lurking forms of some being(s). That was exactly the image I got after listening to Muley's idea. I really liked how this turned out. I liked this so much I want to revisit the idea in the near future and develop a bit more of a full scene and a more dramatic presence for the emerging beasts. I'm also really into the idea of trying my first ever triptych, so I might think of a way to work that into it. You should all visit Mulefoot's work to check out his, it turned out very nice and it's extremely cool to see the differences in interpretation and expression of a similar idea.

Otter Sketch Complete by Tigress

This was a speed sketch/coloring. So I started with a ball point pen sketch (found here: Link), trying to define as little of the figure as possible with line/outline, which I feel I could have done better. I also had the goal of trying to use white sparingly. I failed. I got out of control, went into one of my obsessive trances and lost sight of the forest for the trees. I tried to fix it, but short of pulling out paint, I was stuck. pencils and marker don't go over that white well. Another goal was to draw cute. =) I think he turned out cute. And the real reason I did this was because I wanted a chance to try out all my new supplies! Done on Canson Pen and Marker paper (absolutely the BEST marker paper I have ever used to date)

Sketch of the free Halloween badge for Spyke Tyranno for being one of the lucky (and fast) responders to my free sketch and badge offer! I freakin' love this character and I really enjoyed figuring out the photon gun and uniform. I loved Ghostbusters and it was a nice walk down memory lane to research and draw this scene. I still gotta figure out the lettering a bit better, primarily the stuff up right.

Oh mah gosh I just loved his pudgy, snuggly form and that cute bear face and those adorable horns and floppy ears and fluffy tail! just awesomely adorable. I loved drawing him! One, down 4 to go!

These three guys turned out kinda cool, but way too cute and with way too many details, so I changed them through the course of the painting. I swear unless you saw this sketch, you'd have no clue the final painting started here. I went to one of Vantid's paint chat sessions and found myself really motivated to do some landscape paintings. So, this is was ensued. It's just a speed painting, although I did it while watching movies over the course of quite a few hours and only worked in like 5 - 15 min chunks at a time.

So I'm going ot start a series of paintings that I will dub the "Once Upon a Time" series. These will be a series of undetermined number of paintings, kinda like cute illustrations, the sort you'd see in an old time children's book. Each painting will introduce a new character. I'm going to come up with cute little stories for each character. I have no idea how many I will make. I'll make them until I get tired of making them I guess. Anyways, here's an in-progress painting of the first character, "Fredrik Field Mouse". Isn't he cute? Yes, that is cardboard. I like the old, kinda worn hardcover book look it gives it.
